Comments are essential to a successful blog. Having a blog without comments is like talking in a giant room full of people without anyone listening. It's frustrating and makes you feel as if what you are saying doesn't matter. Comments are helpful in that they provide feedback on your blog. Are your topics interesting? Are your posts too short? Too long? Do your readers understand the point you are trying to get across? Comments can help clear up questions the author may have and help to better tweak the blog to be at its optimal level.
But what makes you a good commenter? Here are 3 helpful tips:
1. Be specific.
-"Great post!" doesn't help the author with anything. Why is it a great post? Did the author use a lot of detail and was very informative? Then you should tell them! The same with criticism. Let the author know about something you didn't like about the post and why. Remember to stay polite and helpful.
2. Make sure your comments are either constructive criticism or encouragement.
-Never post downright rude or harsh criticism about a blog post. It's a huge challenge to put your thoughts out for all of the internet to read, so make sure that you are being polite and considerate of the author's feelings in any of your comments.
3. Encourage others to comment on your own blog!
-Chances are if you are reading blogs and commenting on them, you probably have a blog yourself. After you have left your feedback, throw in a sentence at the end asking the author to check out your blog. Most likely they will return the favor of you taking the time to read their blog and express your opinion with the same.
Happy Blogging!!
